House Democrat: 'I don't contest' DOGE will likely find 'awful examples of wasteful spending'

Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) said on Thursday that President Trump's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) committee would find a “bad example” of wasted government spending, led by technology billionaire Elon Musk. He said.

However, he said it is important that the findings be brought to Congress to Congress, which is responsible for providing government funds.

“I think they're likely to find a terrible example of wasted spending. I'm not competing for that. I'm sure they can legally provide transparency and sunlight to Americans. I'm in Congress. Come and show what you find, then force or lower your vote,” Kanna said in an interview with CNBC's “Squawk Box.”

“And if Ro Khanna is still voting for those wasted spending, I'll have to go back and answer,” he continued.

Kanna criticized Musk's approach “just to stop paying or make these decisions unilaterally.”

“I don't think it's effective,” he said. Trump and Musk added, “We can tell the American people what's wrong so we can actually have a partner with Congress.” And if you have a good case, Americans demand those reductions. ”

Kanna, representing Silicon Valley, said she is open to working with Musk and Doge, particularly to point to possible reductions at the Department of Defense.

“When the President and Elon Musk said they wanted to bring transparency to the government, and when they said they wanted to expose the waste and fraud, I said, 'OK, let's see where that could happen.' “I was one of those Democrats,” Kanna said.

“The problem I have is coming to Congress and showing where the fraud is, showing where the wasteful spending is, and forcing votes to go up or down,” he added. “Please don't make that decision unilaterally. It is in my opinion, violates the Constitution. So if he wants to show that there is a lot of wasted spending, come to Congress and we I'll force you to vote for it.”
