The convicted murderer and rapist were executed by nitrogen gas on Thursday 14 years after being transported to Alabama when he was sentenced to life in Michigan for another murder.
Demetrius Frazier became the fourth inmate in the United States to be subjected to the death penalty this way, as he was sentenced to Pauline Brown's Holman Correctional Facility in 1991.
Frasier, 52, was convicted of capital murder for breaking into Pauline Brown's Birmingham apartment and raping her at the muzzle before killing her at the age of 19.
At his final moments on Earth, he tried to tone his crime of killing Brown.
“I want to apologise to Pauline Brown's family and friends,” he said. “What happened to her should never have happened.”
Frazier also appeared to be calling for Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer. According to Montgomery Advertiser.
His final words are: “Detroit is strong. I love all death row inmates. Let's go.”
Frasier's mask was then closed and the gas began to flow at 6:13pm. He had no visible movement after about eight minutes.
The gas flowed for about 18 minutes, but about 13 minutes after the process, Fraser flat-rilled. He added that he believes Fraser quickly lost consciousness after the gas was released.
Several of Brown's family were present at his execution.
Alabama Gov. Kay Ivy said in her state, “We'll enforce the law.”
“You come to our nation and ruin our citizens and you won't get away from it,” Ivy said.
“Rapeers and murderers are not welcome on our streets. Justice was done tonight for Pauline Brown and her loved ones.”
Before his death, Frasier's lawyers claimed he was in Michigan, but the governor of Michigan took no action to return him to his hometown.
Faced with criticism from Frazier's mother and death penalty opponents, Governor Whitmer “unfortunately” her predecessor, the former, for avoiding the death penalty, by not bringing him back to Michigan. Government Rick Snyder said, “Unfortunately.” , agreed to send him to Alabama.
“It's a really difficult situation,” she told Detroit News. “I understand the pleas and concerns. Michigan is not in the state of death penalty.”
It's now Michigan The first state in the US to ban the death penalty 1847.
Frasier confessed to the murder after being arrested in Michigan a year after killing Brown in 1992 for killing 14-year-old Crystal Kendrick.
During his trial, prosecutors said Frasier robbed Brown, 41, after he sexually assaulted her.
He shot brown in his head when she only had 80 dollars to give him.
Frasier later returned to her apartment looking for money and had snacks from her kitchen, but Brown was dead on the floor for hours.
In 1996, while living in a Michigan prison for Kendrick's murder, an Alabama ju-death judge found him guilty of murdering Brown. A 10-2 vote recommended he be sentenced to death.
He moved to Alabama under an arrangement made in 2011 and transferred him to death row for Brown's murder.
Fraser chose Taco Bell's Britos and Mountain Dew as his final meal.
Following his execution, he became the fourth person in the United States by nitrogen gas.
Alabama was the first state to practice nitrogen gas practice, and three people used the method last year.
His execution followed a fatal injection in Texas on Wednesday and a fatal injection last Friday in South Carolina, making him a third party in the US in 2025.
