A Georgia police officer was shot dead on Friday night and killed when he responded to a shopping centre in Roswell.
Roswell police were called to the Kings Market Shopping Center at 1425 Market Blvd. According to Fox 5 Atlanta, Roswell Police Chief James Conroy said at a press conference at about 7pm in response to reports from suspicious people.
As police searched the area, one officer spotted a man behind a shopping centre, pulled out a gun and fired a gun on the officer. The police were hit several times.
First aid was provided by other officers. He was taken to the hospital where he was declared dead.

The officer pursued the suspect and took him into custody.
Police have not released the identities of officers or gunmen.
“It's a deep sadness that we share the devastating news that one of our officers has passed away,” Roswell police said on Facebook. “A Roswell police officer was shot and killed early this evening in duties while serving the Roswell community and responding to reports of suspects. The suspect was immediately located and taken into custody.”

“The future information will be made public in the coming days, but our priority now is to surround and support fallen officers and families in the grief department,” the post added. “We ask that your heart and your prayers stand with us in doing the same.”
Republican Gov. Brian Kemp said he and his family were praying for the officer's loved ones and lamenting “sudden, heartbreaking loss.”
“Tonight, Marty, the girl, and I pray for the loved ones of Police Officer Roswell, who was shot and killed in duties,” Kemp wrote in X. A law enforcement that laments this sudden, heartbreaking loss, we ask all Georgians to join us in your thoughts and prayers. ”

Other law enforcement agencies in the area expressed sadness dol after the officer's death.
