Chiefs’ Charles Omenihu, Bryan Cook amped for Super Bowl 2025 chance

NEW ORLEANS – For two teammates tackling Sunday for the Chiefs, Super Bowl 2025 is the end of a year's wait.

Defensive tackle Charles Omenif (Torn ACL) and safety Brian Cook (severe ankle sprain) recovered from an injury last year that avoided an overtime victory over the Chiefs 49ers from a Las Vegas press box. , I looked helplessly.

“It would be very special to actually be there and bring it all in,” Omenihu said. “I'm staying by chance. That's the best thing for me, but I'm sure the excitement will start to pick up. I'm happy to have the opportunity to play on the biggest stage.”

Omenihu has not been a Super Bowl until now, but has played in four straight conference championship games. He tore the ACL against the Ravens, so last year's Super Bowl was the first of 11 games he missed, including the first 10 of the season.

Since 1999, just like Ray Lewis and Robert Mattis have had more career forced fumbles in the playoffs than the four of Omenif.

“Finally!” Two weeks ago, an emotional Omenihu cried out to the Chiefs' sideline two weeks ago as his offensive teammates rounded out their victory over the bill. “You can play in the Super Bowl! Yes!”

Cook, the second draft pick of 2022, knows nothing except the season that ends in the Super Bowl.

He was a rookie core special team player and defended the defensive back when the Chiefs defeated the Eagles in the 2023 Super Bowl.

After two years and one side effects Super Bowl victory, Cook is the 17-game starter who tallied two interceptions during the regular season.

He overcomes ankle tightrope walking, gaining more trust from his teammates with his seasonings, and learns that defensive coordinator Steve Spagnulo likes to save playoff runs.

“I can't hold you down,” Cook said. “Many people don't know this, but I suffered the same injury in college so I was even more devastated about the process I had to go through to get back to where I wanted to be.

“When I first did it, I wasn’t particularly confident because I didn’t feel comfortable with the braces or pedals. [to run]. This time, in the end, “This is it. I can't change it.” I still saw my companions reach their goal and murdered it all from me. ”

“Along with coming back here, Cook said, “But in history there's an opportunity to engrave our names, and I'm here to do that.”
