Stradivarius violin made at ‘pinnacle’ of career more than 300 years ago sells for eye-popping price

The Stradivarian violin was created at the “pinner” of Antonio Stradivari's career, which was sold at auction this week.

The instrument, made by Stradivari in 1714, was created by Stradivari, the Luthier most famous for violins, and sold for $11.3 million at Sotheby's Auction in New York on Friday.

The violin known as “Joachim ma Stradivarius” was at the pinnacle of instrumental proficiency when it was created during the “golden age” of Stradivari, Sotheby's said.

It represents the fascinating collectors and musicians of its unparalleled sound and renowned origin,” said Sotheby's Chairman Mari Claudia.
