The net was held by Cam Johnson through trade deadlines. Now he will be the only representative at All-Star Weekend to participate in the 3-point contest.
“Shawn [Marks, general manager] That's an honor because I pulled me aside the other day and told them they invited me to do it,” Johnson said. “I've seen the three-point contest grow and imagined that I'd be there all the time, so it's going to be pretty cool. I'm excited.”
When Johnson took him aside, no one wonders what he thought, considering he was the subject of constant trade rumours throughout almost every season. However, after Thursday's deadline has passed, Johnson will face the league's top shooting game at Chase Center (8pm, TNT) on Saturday.
“It means a lot. It's a skill set I'm proud of and something I take really seriously. So, yeah, that's a big time opportunity,” Johnson said. Ta.
“You've always dreamed of this. Everyone dreams of playing in the All-Star Game. I'm not there, but I'm involved in some of the weekends. And I'm working on shooting and it. It feels good to be recognized as I put so much effort into boasting about it over the years. But I want to go win it.”
Brooklyn heads for Tilt vs Charlotte on Monday, when he won four of the five. It comes primarily to the strength of the defense led by Nick Claxton and Dayron Sharp.
“This stretch, the last five games, we are the sixth game defensively. [Claxton] And Deiron was really, really good, so it takes that level of energy, communication and strength,” coach Jordi Fernandez said.
NET is second in the league in defensive ratings at 105.2 on January 28th.
“I just get that and find my spot where I can get the block,” Claxton said. “The explosiveness is coming back. It's a different defense, so you just understand everything and take pride in the defensive side of the ball.”
With Ben Simmons being acquired, the net has not demonstrated the backup point guard behind Dangelo Russell. They used a 6-foot-9, 240-pound Trendon Watford in Friday's victory, and he had 12 points and four boards, and was a game high plus 19 that led Russell backing in 22 minutes.
“It feels good,” Watford said. “Each game feels better. It's a good feeling to finally get into rhythm. Watch some shots come in and miss a few shots. As much as you can handle the ball. And back out the points with DLO and find my guys. Help me win.”
Nets has enough cap space for each NetSdaily to add a smallest veteran player.
They were able to convert Tyrees Martin, who has been active in 48 of the 52 games and is approaching a two-way 50 limit, into standard trading.
They can ink on Killian Hayes, who often play in the G League but can't deal with two-way. Alternatively, you can view external options.
