Trump says 25 percent tariffs on steel and aluminum coming Monday

President Trump said he announced 25% tariffs on steel and aluminum on Monday, adding that he would kick off mutual tariffs in a few days as well.

When asked which countries will be affected, Trump said steel and aluminum tariffs will affect “everyone.”

“Steel coming into the US will have 25% tariffs, and there will be aluminum too,” Trump told reporters. “25%… both.”

He added that details of mutual tariffs will be announced on Tuesday or Wednesday.

“In a very simple way, if they charge us, we charge them,” he says, and the tariffs will be implemented “almost immediately” and affect “all countries.” He added.

Trump has shown that he will charge sweep charges on steel and aluminum, as well as tariffs on semiconductor chips, medicines, oil and gas.

On Friday, he warned that mutual tariffs will be announced early next week, adding that he believes mutual interest is a fair approach, in contrast to flat rate tariffs.

“From a tariff perspective, we mean that we have tariffs, mostly mutual tariffs,” he said.

“But maybe it's mutual tariffs where the country pays so much or charges us a lot, and we do the same thing very mutual. That's the only fair way to do it. I think so, if you do that, you won't hurt anyone. They charge us.

Trump imposed a 10% tariff on China on February 1, followed by a long-standing pledge to target Chinese products. He delayed 25% tariffs in Canada and Mexico after speaking with leaders from both countries last week.
