Tiger Woods has stepped back from his 2025 Genesis invitation at Tory Pines as he continues to mourn the death of his mother, Kurchida Woods last week.
The 15-time major champion announced his mother had passed away last Tuesday, but he gave no cause for her death. Kurchida was 80 years old.
Woods, who runs the tournament where the Tiger Woods Foundation hosts, explained in a statement Tuesday that he is not ready to return to the competition yet.

“I was going to tee up that this week, but I'm just not ready.” Woods, 49, wrote. “I did my best to prepare, knowing that it was what my mother wanted, but I'm still dealing with her losses.
“Thank you to everyone who reached out to me. I want to be in Tory later in the week and thank you for the continued kindness since my mother passed away.”
The Genesis Invitational will be held in San Diego Thursday through Sunday and will have a $20,000 wallet.
The tournament was moved from the Riviera Country Club in Palisade, Pacific Ocean for La Fires.
Woods last played on the PGA Tour at the British Open in July.

Kurchida was in a golf league match tomorrow supporting Woods two weeks before her death.
Woods and Rory McIlroy have established a new league. It combines advanced technology and teams of top players on the tour in two hours of competitions twice a week.
“It's a heartfelt sadness to share that my beloved mother, Kurchida Woods, passed away early this morning,” Woods wrote in a statement last Tuesday. “My mother was the power of all nature of her own, and her spirit could simply not be denied. She was fast with needles and laughter. She was my biggest fan and biggest supporter. .
“She was loved by so many people, but especially by her two grandchildren, Sam and Charlie. For me and my family, we are pleased to you in this difficult time. Prayer, thank you for your privacy. I love you mom.”
