Gotham FC’s Tierna Davidson and Emily Sonnett on USWNT roster for SheBelieves Cup

Gotham FC defenders Tiana Davidson and Emily Sonnet were again selected to represent red, white and blue.

Davidson and Sonnett were one of 23 players named to the US Women's National Team at the 2025 Shebelieves Cup on Tuesday.

USWNT, who won five straight Chevres Cups, will play on February 20th, playing against Columbia at Shell Energy Stadium in Houston.

Seven-time Chevellev Cup champion Sonnet is expected to be praised before the match after becoming the 45th player to compete in USWNT's 100 career during his match against Iceland on October 24th.

Sonnett is also the only US player to play in all Shebelieves Cup tournaments since its launch in 2016.

Meanwhile, this will mark the arrival of Davidson's seventh Shebelieves Cup.

In the upcoming tournament, we will also mark a reunion on some sort of pitch between Davidson, Sonnet, former Gotham players Crystal Dan and Yazmeen Ryan.

Gotham and Dan announced a “mutually agreed” split two weeks ago, following their only season with the team. Dan has since signed with Paris Saint-Germain.

Meanwhile, Gotham traded Ryan for the Houston Dash in late December, with the two-time NWSL champions recently signing a three-year contract extension with her new team.

The USWNT roster includes 12 players from a team of 22 players who won gold medals at the 2024 Parisilympics, but only four players have started at least five games in the tournament.

This is also the first Shebelieves Cup for 10 USWNT players.

“This team is still growing and I'm still impressed by the dedication of the player pool. I'll be better personally and as a group.” “There are a lot of players at the start of the club's preseason. We are patient with them, but at the same time we maximize our time together.”

After opening the tournament in Houston, USWNT will travel to Glendale, Arizona, where they will face Australia on February 23rd.

The US will close the tournament in San Diego against Japan on February 26th.

Hayes pointed out that each US team is expected to have a different style, which would be a “great test.”

Hayes also said he was excited to see more players get the opportunity to play in tough games.

“We've put a lot of thoughts on how best to achieve that while continuing to evolve and keeping out teams that can win,” Hayes said. “So every game should be so much fun for the staff, players and fans.”
