Cowboys’ Super Bowl drought not sitting well with Troy Aikman

It's been nearly 30 years since the Cowboys last shook the Lombardi Trophy.

And no one, including that team's quarterback, is happy with the title drought.

Troy Aikman was the Hall of Fame quarterback who helped the Cowboys win three Super Bowls in the 1990s, including the last of the 1995-96 season.

If the Cowboys are again shortage this year, it will be a drought until 30 years without titles.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, ESPN's Monday Night Football analysts have been open about the constant shortage of teams ever since.

“We thought we were going to come back because we thought we were going to be more among us. Obviously, we weren't,” Eikman said in a 2025 Pediatric Cancer Fund. He spoke at the gala. “But not only did we not come back, but here we were almost 30 years later and no one came back.

“I think I'm faithfully talking for the Cowboys saying it's been a long time. This is the Dallas Cowboys, an organization with a great history, and this team has a lot of experience over the years. They've won many games with different players, but for some reason they couldn't do that in the postseason. It was part of the Cowboys legacy, and it was a long-standing supporter. I don't think anyone is happy about that.”

Dallas has not even reached the Super Bowl or the NFC Conference Championship Game since Aikman led his team to glory.

The Cowboys are heading in a new direction once again after rejecting Mike McCarthy and tabbing Brian Schottenheimer as the new head coach.

His quarterback Duck Prescott revealed the change in coaching and said he is “looking forward to” working with the new bench boss, the son of NFL coaching legend Marty Schottenheimer. I did.

“I think understanding the type of coach he is, his type and how he approaches the game is the best way to illustrate the example of being the son of a legendary soccer coach.” Prescott spoke at the same event Tuesday. “He's not going to downplay the game, he enjoys the work in it.

“I look forward to grinding and some of the things we are trying to do.

The Cowboys rattled out their third consecutive playoff appearance under McCarthy before the disappointing 7-10 season in 2024, and due to a hamstring torn in November Prescott was restricted to eight games after undergoing season-ending surgery.

Prescott added during an event the Cowboys consider to be “close” to its long-standing title.

“We competed with the Eagles and it feels like we mostly beat them when we played them,” Prescott said. “When other guys have a trophy, you don't want to say, 'Check the records', right? So they have credit. They won it, and they deserve to refuse. But yeah, [we’re] It's very close. ”
