this week, The par 4 hole 7 features an all-white flag stick Without a logo, script, or other indicator, direct respect for Woods' mother, who originally from Thailand and practiced the Buddhist faith. White and number 7 are both important aspects of Buddhism. White represents purity, enlightenment and knowledge. The two white stripes inside the Thai flag also symbolize Buddhism.
There is Seven stages of awakening These are the seven basic elements of Buddhism, but the importance of this number does not end there. According to Buddhist mythology, Buddha himself takes seven steps immediately after being reborn, and after death it takes seven days for the soul to pass on to the next life.
It is impressive that tournament officials recognized these aspects of Buddhist faith and applied them to this week's tournament in a subtle yet thoughtful way.
The Torrey Pines par 4, 7th hole is important as it is also linked to Woods and his career. Woods won the US Open title on the seventh green in 2008, beating Rocco in the 19-hole playoffs on Monday after the final round ended. The two players remained tied up after 18 holes, so USGA officials sent them to hole 7 to determine the winner. Mediate missed the fairway and hit his tee ball on the left bunker. He then couldn't save par. Meanwhile, Woods spotted a short grass from the tee, hitting a nine iron from the pin to 20 feet, and two putts for Parr and his third US open victory. Many consider this victory the most impressive career of Woods' career, as he won the golf tournament with one foot.
Seventeen years later, this hole brings even more importance and recognizes his beloved mother.
