The technology behind Zeekr Rt

The Zeekr RT is equipped with an impressive array of 13 cameras, four LIDAR units, six radar sensors and an external audio receiver, ensuring a 360-degree view of the surroundings. To maintain optimal performance in a variety of weather conditions, the Zeekr RT features a specially designed system to keep the sensors clean. This custom designed sensor cleaning system includes a small wiper and spray nozzle for windshield wiper liquid, specially created by Waymo to ensure clear visibility of the camera and rider sensors. Robotaxi's Advanced Sensor Suite overlaps the entire vehicle's field of vision and works effectively day and night.

At the heart of Zeekr RT's autonomous capabilities are Nvidia's Drive Agx Thor System-on-chip, which is the world's first automaker to integrate this cutting-edge autonomous driving chipset. This powerful AI platform can perform up to 2,500 teraflops and can integrate a variety of intelligent features such as autonomous driving, parking, resident monitoring, and infotainment into a single architecture.

From drawings to reality

The journey from concept to production was quick and impressive. The Zeekr RT was designed and developed at Zeekr's R&D facility at CEVT (China Europe Vehicle Technology Center) in Gothenburg, Sweden. Waymo is testing prototype versions of the Zeekr RT on public roads in San Francisco and Phoenix, with human safety drivers at the helm. Mass production of the Zeekr RT is expected to begin later this year, with the first delivery to Waymo for further testing and verification.

The road ahead

As Waymo prepares to integrate Zeekr RT into the commercial fleet, the future of autonomous riding services looks promising. Waymo will now deploy these vehicles to the Waymo One service, which operates in select cities such as Phoenix and San Francisco. After thorough testing, Waymo aims to operate these vehicles in a completely unmanned mode, marking important milestones in autonomous transport. With the introduction of cost-effective and passenger-friendly vehicles, Waymo could be competitive in the growing Robotaxi market.
