Klobuchar says Adams has become Trump administration’s ‘own political pawn’

Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) said Sunday that New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) has become the Trump administration's “own political pawn.”

“They literally took the mayor of New York City. He is facing and faces serious charges of bribery. The bribery will expand. They will make him into their own political pawns. I changed it” of the union. ”

“And they did this by trying to force career prosecutors at the Justice Department to drop the charges against him,” she added.

Federal prosecutors were recently ordered by Department of Justice (DOJ) officials to dismiss a corruption charge against Adams, who has gained closeness with President Trump in recent months.

Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove said in the memo that the Justice Department had decided to dismiss the count without assessing the strength of the case, informing them that the attorney who filed the charges was not incorrect.

“This is another day for the Trump administration. Costs are rising, confusion is rising, and yes, corruption is on the way. [up,]” Klobuchar said Sunday.

Adams met with Trump's “border area” Tom Homan on Thursday to prepare US Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents to resume operations on Rikers Island, which owns New York City's largest prison. He says he's set it up.

“Today, I met with Tom Homan from 'Border Czar' and local federal law enforcement officials to discuss how we could work together to eliminate violent migrant gangs from our city.” Adams said in a statement.

“We are currently working on implementing executive orders, like we did for 20 years, to reestablish the capabilities of ICE agents to operate on Rikers Island,” the mayor added.

Hill reached out to Adams and the DOJ press for comments.
