Nissan Could Move Production Out of Mexico over Trump Tariffs

Nissan CEO Uchida said President Donald Trump's tariffs on Mexico could move automobile production abroad.

“From Mexico to the US, we export a considerable number of cars this fiscal year. […] 320,000 units are exported from Mexico to the US. If you are subject to high tariffs, you must be prepared for this. While we are monitoring the situation, that's true,” Uchida said. I saidaccording to Reuters.

The proposed move could be devastating for Mexico as Nissan produced around 670,000 vehicles in the country in 2024. Nissan exports 450,000 of these vehicles, making it the second largest producer in Mexico.

“We export in large quantities, so if there are high tariffs, this will have a big impact on our business, so we need to monitor this carefully,” Uchida continued.

Trump has put on hold pending talks with Mexican President Claudia Simbaum as he says it will be used to increase border security. We have put on hold the 25% tariff.

“It was a very friendly conversation, and she agreed to immediately supply 10,000 Mexican soldiers at the border separating Mexico and the US. These soldiers stopped the flow of fentanyl. , specially designated to stop the flow of illegal immigration into our country,” Trump wrote about the true society after he decided to put off tariffs.

Further talks between the US and its southern neighbors will be led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Commerce Howard Rutnik and Secretary of Treasury Scott Becent.

“By making trade deficits more reciprocal and balanced, we can reduce trade deficits. Grow the US economy, and for the benefit of American workers, manufacturers, farmers, ranches, entrepreneurs and businesses. “We will improve trade ties with our trading partners,” Trump said. I wrote it In a note about his defense of mutual tariffs.
