Elland Road under the lights. Second v fourth. Tonight’s Championship offering between two-promotion chasing sides, Leeds United and Sunderland is an absolute belter.

Leeds are on an absolute tear at the minute, winning five of their last six in the Championship (the other result a 0-0 draw away at Burnley). In those six matches they have scored 18 goals, averaging three a game, and conceded none. This is an important period for every club but with this feels particularly important for Leeds as they look to pull clear of the chasing pack for automatic promotion, with Burnley drawing 0-0 at Preston on Saturday. This is the first of three tough matches for the Yorkshire club, with Sheffield United (away) a week from today, followed by West Brom at home.

Sunderland are unbeaten in the league in 2025, but their form has recently flickered between wins and draws and second-placed Leeds are now in a commanding position. This feels like a crucial chance to reel in the top two.

The Black Cats have the youngest squad in the Championship littered with talent, particularly Jobe Bellingham, top scorer Wilson Isidor and Enzo Le Fée. The latter two both scored in Sunderland’s last outing, a 2-0 win over Luton. Patrick Roberts, a relative veteran at 28, has also been outstanding.

Important Events
In other championship news today:
This is the first Leeds game Since the statement on Friday, it has condemned anti-Palestinian chants targeting Israeli international manor Solomon. Reminders for that statement:
Leeds United once again denounces the football chant, which includes anti-Palestinian lyrics that targeted Solomon's manners, which he had already done so in December.
At Leeds United, hate crimes and discriminatory language and chanting are not accepted, and the club has a zero-tolerance policy against all kinds of discriminatory abuse.
The club has received numerous complaints from supporters of Leeds United about the chant, and it was hoping that the original strategy of denounce it through the media and working with supporter groups would prevent this in the future, but sadly This has become more pronounced in recent games, including Elland Road.
After monitoring the situation at recent home games, the origins of Elland Road chanting appear to come from the Norman Hunter South Stand, especially in blocks FA5, FA6, SS5 and SS6. As a result, CCTV surveillance and steward presence increases.
This is a lovely piece by Louise Taylor from EnzolfeHe was a pupil of Regisluburi, the Sunderland manager of Lolient.

preamble
Elland Road under the lights. Second V, fourth. Tonight's Championship is between the two promotional pursuits, with Leeds United and Sunderland being the absolute Belter.
Leeds shed absolute tears at the moment, winning five of the final six in the championship (the other result is a 0-0 draw at Burnley). In these six games, they scored 18 goals, averaging three games and admitted nothing. This is an important period for all clubs, but I feel that it is especially important for Leeds as they try to avoid the packs they chase for automated promotions. This is the first of three tough games for the Yorkshire Club, starting today, followed by Sheffield United (away) and West Brom at home.
Sunderland is undefeated in the 2025 league, but recently their form flickered between victory and draw, with second-place Leeds now in the position of manager. This feels like an important opportunity to get caught up in the top two.
The Black Cats are littered with talent from the championship, particularly Job Bellingham, top scorers Wilson Izidor and Enzo Le Faye. The latter two both scored on Sunderland's final outing, winning a 2-0 victory over Luton. Patrick Roberts, a relative veteran of 28, is also outstanding.
This must be a cracker. Kick-off is 8pm.
