Mavs Coach Darrell Armstrong Arrested for Aggravated Assault

Dallas Mavericks assistant coach and former player Darrell Armstrong was arrested on Saturday morning on charges of aggravated attacks on his girlfriend.

Dallas police responded to a report of interference at 3:45am. After the investigation, officers determined that Armstrong and his girlfriend were in the discussion. Affidavit obtained by the Fox 4 of Dallas, claim The Armstrong hit his girlfriend with a gun and threatened to shoot her. The argument began when Armstrong's girlfriend asked him about texting another woman, the report says.

Armstrong's girlfriend claims he was drinking all night and demanding keys to her apartment. The victim said that a suspected handgun attack occurred while the MAVS assistant was on the phone with another person.

The former NBA player girlfriend claims she said, “I'm going to shoot you.”

The Mavericks have issued a statement regarding the arrest of their assistant coach.

“Dallas Maverick is aware of the incidents involving members of our staff and is collecting all relevant information surrounding the incident,” the statement said via Fox 4. Employees are placed in a halt until legal proceedings are in effect.

“This issue is currently under review by appropriate legal authorities. As a result, we will allow legal proceedings to carry out the course and refrain from further comment while the proceedings are underway.”

In a statement to Armstrong's attorney, Larry Taylor, to Fox News Digital, he praised the client's “upright” status in the Dallas community while announcing the launch of the investigation.

“We are in the preliminary stage of conducting our own independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding yesterday's incident involving client Darrell Armstrong,” the statement said. read. “Mr. Armstrong was an outstanding member of the Dallas community during the day and as a coach. We'll be talking more about the incident in the coming days.”

Armstrong played internationally for three years before beginning his NBA career. He spent nine of his 14-year NBA career as a member of the Orlando Magic, and has been enshrined in the team's Hall of Fame. In addition to playing for Orlando, Armstrong also played for Dallas, New Orleans, Indiana and New Jersey.
