Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Blue Jays fail to strike deal before deadline

Perhaps the Mets will fire their second offseason mega contract next winter.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and the Blue Jays did not reach an agreement on a contract extension before the Monday deadline he set, and the All-Star first baseman would not want to negotiate during the season. He enters the final year of his current contract.

The 25-year-old says he and the club weren't approaching the deal.

“I've always had my number. I changed a bit. But even so, it didn't happen,” Guerrero told reporters Tuesday. According to SportsNet.

Guerrero, who turns 26 next month, is less than five months after Juan Soto, who recorded a record 15-year, $765 million contract in December.

After long contract negotiations, the Mets bring back long-time base-hand Pete Alonso on a $54 million contract paying $30 million in 2025, opting out after the first season Includes:

The two seem interested in sticking together, but if Alonso has enough season, Alonso could come back to the market, paying for the 31-year-old fan favorite at that point You should compare and consider whether to give a monster trade or not to Guerrero, who is 27 years old.

We believe that teams from other major markets like the Toronto division rivals, Yankees and Red Sox, will also be involved.

“Listen, I want to stay here,” Guerrero told reporters. “I want to be Blue Jay for the rest of my career. But it's a free agency. It's a business. You need to listen to 29 more teams, but they have to compete. Not there.”

The father of the Guerrero Hall of Fame, who shares the same name, did not win a championship during his 16-year career with the Expo, Angels, Rangers and Orioles.

“The Winning Team,” Guerrero Jr. said about what he's looking for in free agency. “As you all know, my dad played for years. He never won the World Series. And I always said, my personal goal was to win the World Series. , to give my dad a ring. That's what I'm looking for.”
