In first TGL match since his mother’s passing, Tiger Woods did not look like himself

When Tiger Woods drove to Sophie Centre for a TGL match on Tuesday night, he had no choice but to get emotional. The last time he was there, his mother, Kurchida, was present and watching her son play.

She passed away seven days later, and Woods retreated from the Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines the following week. At the time of the retreat, Woods said he needed more time to deal with his mother's death. He was having a difficult time on a Tuesday night too.

“I came here and made it really difficult for every moment we had, my mother, how excited she was to drive her here,” Woods said after the game. Ta.

“So they're some great moments and great memories. It was a difficult process.”

Woods seemed to have not touched the club in a few weeks. He made some major mistakes and found multiple penalty areas. He missed a short putt and left a bunker shot in the sand. However, the moment of the match came to hole 13, where Woods had an eye-opening mental gaffe. He faced 199 yards on the second shot, but thought he had only 99 yards left, making it a hilarious moment for a 15 major winner.

“It was one of the most embarrassing things I've ever had,” Woods said.

“I can't believe that happened.”

Cameron Young, Matt Fitzpatrick and Ricky Fowler gave New York Golf Club a 10-3 victory over Woods, Kevin Kissner and Tom Kim in the ninth match of the TGL's first season. Despite the biased score, the victory gave New York the first of the year.

“We definitely didn't get too many holes after the first two games,” Fowler said.

“That was what we wanted and it was great to see it all come together.”
