Emmy-winning Los Angeles news anchor Chauncey Glover died of acute poisoning in November after a medical examiner determined it was a coincidence on Wednesday.
Glover's 39-year-old death was the combination of chloroethane and methamphetamine. A Los Angeles County medical inspector said in a statement.
The way of death was ruled was an accident. It has not been revealed how he contacted the substance.
Exposure to high levels of chloroethane – this can be a colorless gas or liquid depending on the conditions – can lead to temporary drunkards, loss of muscle coordination, or unconscious emotions . He was found not to respond at home on Nov. 5 and was declared dead by the fire department around 12:40am, the agency said.
The respected anchor has been working for CBS Affiliate KCAL News since October 2023 after winning three Emmy Awards for ABC Affiliate KTRK in Houston for an eight-year stint.
During his tenure at KCAL News, Alabama native relied on an hourly news segment co-hosted with Susie Sue and Pat Harvey.
A month before his death, he celebrated his first anniversary at California Station.
The full inspector's report is expected to be available by the end of March.
“The assistant inspector completed the exam on November 6, 2024 and after returning to the relevant tests and studies, the cause of death and method of death was certified on February 19,” the Medical Inspector's office said in a statement Wednesday.
Glover's loved ones said after his death they were “devastated by the unimaginable losses” of journalists.
“He was more than a son and a brother. He was a sign of light in our lives and a real hero to his community,” his family said.
