A’ja Wilson makes admission on Caitlin Clark’s ‘privilege’

Kate Linklark received several honors following his first season in the WNBA. In addition to being named the league's Rookie of the Year, Clark was also named the 2024 “Athlete of the Year.”

Clark produced a strong line of stats at her time in Iowa and at WNBA levels, but there was much debate as to whether she had the inherent privileges that helped her rise to stardom. In an interview with Time Magazine, Clark acknowledged that there are particularly advantages to being built in.

“I want to say I got everything, but as a white person, I have the privilege. A lot of the players in the league that was really good were black players. This league is built on top of them.

“The more you elevate black women, the more beautiful it will be.”

Wilson once again brooched subjects in a recent interview with Time Magazine.

Wilson spoke about the pushbacks Clark received in his remarks, but the Ace Center in Las Vegas has acknowledged the barriers she faced throughout her outstanding career.

Wilson said he continues to speak out in a variety of ways and uses his privileges.

“I have privileges in many ways,” she said. “I can be in the space where many other black women, white women, you want to see it. But it's my privilege to be a professional athlete and others. I'm going to try to use it to help. That's why I give applause. It's okay as people can talk about us as black women in the room we might be in, and it's ours I'm grateful that means small parts.”
