Former Kentucky AG Daniel Cameron launches Senate bid

Former Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron (R) announced Thursday that he will begin bidding for vacant seats by longtime Sen. Mitch McConnell (R).

“It's time for a new generation of leadership in the US Senate, Kentucky. Let's do this.”Thursday afternoon postSocial Platform x.

Alongside the statement were pictures of Cameron with his wife and children.

Cameron has a deep GOP bond and was discovered at the White House late Thursday afternoon during President Trump's Black History Month reception.

Before becoming Kentucky's first black attorney general, Cameron served for two years as attorney for McConnell, the state's longest serving senator.

The power of attorney at the time began a failed governor bid in 2023, losing to Democratic incumbent government Andy Besher (D-KY.).

Cameron faces backlash against her decision not to accuse the two Louisville police officers who shot and killed Breana Taylor in 2020 during a law enforcement raid. He poses the crime of putting a third party at risk at the scene where a bullet ran through a nearby apartment.

Taylor's death led to widespread protests against police brutality.

Cameron could face selection questions in his bid for a vacant Kentucky Senate seat. Rep. James Kommer (R-KY.) announced Thursday that he would not run for the Post. Rep. Andy Barr (R-KY.) and businessman Nate Morris said they are considering launching a campaign.
