‘Increase our margins by a lot’

President Trump said Thursday that he hopes Republicans will do “fantasy” in the 2026 midterm elections.

“You know, in a presidential election, when you win a presidency, they say the medium term usually doesn't work,” Trump said at an event with the GOP governor of Washington. “I think we're going to do great things.”

“I think we'll really increase the margins a lot,” predicted the president.

Trump, 78, revealed that after launching a 2026 fundraiser with former Vice President Kamala Harris, he ordered staff to hit their phones in the morning.

“We raised $608 million in three weeks. Can you believe it?” Trump said.

The commander suggested that if he could run for a third term at the White House, he would spend money to fund the campaign, but people said, “I'm not allowed to run.” .

“So we have that money, and I had to spend it somewhere… If I can't use it on me, it's something I'll be able to do with some of my friends I think you're going to use that, right?” Trump told GOP Governor. “Many of my friends.”

The president said the intention is to “continue to steal” GOP donors before midterm elections in order to “accumulate” the party's war chest.

“I think we're trying to do great,” Trump said of the 2026 race. “The mid-term is big and I think it's a huge surprise.”

After the 2018 midterm elections, Republicans won Senate seats during Trump's first term, but lost several governors to the House majority and Democrats.

Republicans currently have a majority of 53-47 in the Senate. Democrats will need to seize the upper room to regain at least four seats in 2026.

Of the 35 seats in 2026, 22 are held by Republicans.

In the House of Representatives, all 435 seats will be headed for elections two years later, with Republicans taking up a narrow three-seat majority.
