Thirty Republican senators have signed a letter urging the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to withdraw gun controls that were in place during the Biden administration.
The senator assumed President Donald Trump's February 7 executive order as the driving force behind the letter. Trump used the order “to assess ongoing infringement” of his right to maintain and endure weapons.

Under former President Joe Biden, the ATF adopted a number of policies and regulations that violated the Second Amendment Protection of Americans. President Trump's executive order directs Attorney General Pam Bondi to review and develop President Biden's plan of action on illegal firearms control. We ask that you work with the Attorney General to quickly identify and withdraw these policies.
It says, “In particular, we must call your attention to the next second amendment regulations and policies and immediately cancel them.”
The letter then lists “engage in business rules”, “pistol brace rules” where the ATF tries to expand its background check. -ATF has called the “Ghost Gun” rule. This caused the ATF to try to force a background check on the gun parts kit.
The senator also called for the ATF's “zero tolerance” policy to be suspended. This is a policy that has been used to close numerous gun stores over paperwork errors.
Lawrence Keene, senior vice president and general advisor to the National Shooting Sports Foundation, praised the Senate's letter, saying, “The rules specifically identified by the Senators will punish the firearms industry outside of the legislative process and will remain a part of the firearms industry. Designed to guide regulations. The NSSF has been protesting these rules since its announcement, with the Trump administration and the Senate acting swiftly to protect the second amendment and the legitimate firearms industry.
