Broncos linebacker coach and former 49ers linebacker Michael Wilhoyt was arrested Sunday night after being accused of assaulting a police officer. According to Denver 9 news.
He was booked on suspicion of second-degree assault by a police officer and was taken to the downtown Denver prison.
The location listed in court documents is where the parking lot is at Denver International Airport. According to the Denver Post.
“We know the situation that occurred on Sunday and is involved in the process of gathering more information,” the Broncos said in a statement on 9 News.
The 38-year-old is scheduled to appear in court at Denver Count Court at 10:30 a.m. Monday, according to the Denver Post.
38-year-old Will Hoyt was a free agent in the draft coming out of Division II Washburn, but was successful with the 49ers after being signed by the Jim Harbaugh-led 49ers.
He played six seasons in the NFL since 2012-17, five seasons with the 49ers, and one season with the “Boom of Boom” Seahawks.
Wilhoite began 45 games in his career, including 16 for the 2014 49ers, and recorded strong numbers in 2014 as a tackler with a career-high 87.
He appeared in 79 games in his career.
In 2019, Saints coach Sean Payton porched Wilhoyt as an assistant to a special team before eventually becoming a defensive assistant in 2020.
He later joined the Chargers as a linebacker coach from 2021-22, and rejoined Payton in 2023 when he returned to coaching with the Denver Broncos.
The Bronco defense was the best in the NFL in 2024.
Denver has improved from 27th place allowed per game (24.3) to the third best (19).
