Chile power outage left millions without electricity

The government said millions of Chileans have lost their power, including those in Santiago's capital.

According to the X mail by the Secretary of the Interior, the blackouts affected the Northern Arica region and the Parisakota region in southern Los Lagos.

The “power supply disruption” has caused “massive power outages” in more than 12 regions of the country, Chile's National Disaster Response Services said.

Saesa, a national electricity distributor serving more than 1 million people in Chile, has confirmed that the nationwide blackouts have affected all customers. The country has over 19 million people living there.

Home Minister Carolina Toha said he is convening staff and power providers in a race to restore services.

The Ministry of Transport urged drivers to drive carefully because the traffic lights were not working, adding that passenger instructions stuck on the metro train are approaching.

“The phone is meant to be calm and avoid forwarding to avoid traffic jams,” the ministry said in X.
