The Department of Transport has given New York City a March 21 deadline to end its congestion pricing plan.
in letter To New York State Transportation Agency officials, Federal Highways Agency Gloria Shepherd followed an order from Transportation Secretary Shawn Duffy, who ended the state's crowd pricing plan.
“This withdrawal of approval and termination on November 21, 2024 will take effect on March 21, 2025, in order to ensure that the operation of this pilot project is neatly finished in order to provide NYSDOT and its projects,” Shepherd wrote.
President Trump celebrated last week after his administration said he had “saved” his driver from a $9 bill to enter part of Manhattan.
State officials touted the plan to reduce city traffic and air pollution, but opposition said it put a burden on commuters.
Shepherd asked state officials to work with New York State administrators to “provide necessary details and updates regarding the suspension of toll operations.”
The memo said it provided a March 21 deadline to allow state officials to work with various entry points to Manhattan to keep the suspensions orderly.
