Why Warriors trade ‘didn’t make sense’ for Kevin Durant

Kevin Durant rings about why he traded with the Warriors at the NBA trade deadline.

On “The Draymond Green Show with Baron Davis,” the Suns star said the deal away from Phoenix was too complicated for his taste.

“I want to end my career on my own terms, and that's the only thing I'm worried about. I see a lot of guys who don't have the opportunity,” Durant said. “But when it comes to the Warriors, I didn't want to move. I'm going to your team, once I get to your team, it's going to be a whole new era for your team.

“My contract and my production alone, I'll just get up and move in the middle of the season. That's going to be a big blow to the team I'm going to. It seems like I understand why I want to trade me and why I'm watching it. For now, it doesn't make sense for either side to go through it.”

As Durant continued, it seemed he would leave the door open this summer.

“We play the season, if that's the decision. [the Suns] You want to make it in the offseason, then you understand that. It's just such a big change, I've been through it before, and I really don't. ”

Despite speculation from Warriors manager Steve Kerr, Durant told ESPN in the aftermath of the deadline that outside chatter had no role in denying a return to the Bay Area.

“People are always crazy about me.” Durant said in an interview with ESPN.. “That's not why I didn't want to come back. I didn't want to be traded mid-season. I asked if there was nothing for my time with the Warriors or I didn't like Draymond because I didn't like it. [Green]. At the end of the day, I didn't want to move, so I wanted to watch it with the Phoenix team and see what the rest of the season could do. I'm glad I was still there. ”

Instead of playing three seasons and winning two NBA championships in Golden State, the Warriors brought Jimmy Butler with them.

Durant, 36, was a disappointing 27-31 and remained with the Suns, who quickly dropped out of the Western Conference playoff race.
