According to Government Efficiency (DOGE), the Department of Health and Human Services has ended a contract where millions of people are paid each month to operate a Texas Overflow facility that has been vacant every month.
In a social media post, Doge said former US customs and immigration enforcement employees and members of the Biden Transition team joined the family's efforts in early 2021 to help secure a SoleSource HHS contract for overflow housing from licensed care facilities.
“As a result, cash and portfolio efforts for family investments have increased from $8.3 million in 2020 to $520 million in 2023.
This is the agency that followed Musk's Doge productivity email verdict and the agency that did not.

Since March 2024, HHS has paid $18 million a month to maintain the facility in Pecos, Texas, and has been used to house unaccompanied immigrant children, previously at the heart of reports of poor condition.
Payments continued despite the facility being empty, Doge said.
“Currently, with less than 20% occupancy of licensed facilities in the country, HHS was able to terminate this contract, saving taxpayers more than $215 million a year,” state X posted.
