Katy Perry, CBS News' Gale King and Jeff Bezos' fiance Lauren Sanchez are heading into the space of Blue Origin's historic all-women's mission, the company announced Thursday.
The trio will be joined by former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bow, civil rights activist Amanda Nuguen and film producer Kellianne Flynn.
The six-person crew of all women is scheduled to be released this spring.
“I don't know how to explain fear and excitement at the same time. King, 70, said in the announcement of “CBS Mornings.”
“This was never my dream. It was never my dream,” King said. “And someone said, maybe you need to have a new dream, Gale.”
The TV anchor said she consulted with her child and Oprah Winfrey before accepting the rocket seat.
“If Kirby, Will and Oprah were fine, I would have been fine,” she said. “I thought Oprah would say, 'No, no.” She said, “If you don't do it, I think they'll kick yourself when they're all back and you have the chance to do it.” She's right. ”
Sanchez, who put together the crew, said he was “not excited” about upcoming flights.
“I really see this group as an explorer and a storyteller. We are each trying to change it with an incredible view of the beautiful planet. The countdown begins! #TakingUpSpace,” she wrote on Instagram.
This mission records the 11th human flight for the new Shepherd program of the Bezos-owned Rocket Company.
