Vice President J.D. Vice President Vance's grandmother is scheduled to be recognized at a park in Middletown, Ohio, but one councillor appears to be throwing a wrench in the proposed plan.
Middletown Councillor Paul Horn; suggestion In December, a plaque bench commemorating Vance's late grandmother, Bonnie Blanton Vance, will be placed in Miami Park, where he lived before his death in 2005.Hillbilly ElegyHe wrote that his late grandmother, whom he called “Mummer,” helped him stay straight on a mean path while growing up in the town of Rust Belt. “Maybe we might think of a memorial or something in Miami Park as a symbol of gratitude for choosing to live here… If you read a book and watched a movie, the person grounded him while his mother was clean and trying to make her life together,” Horn said at a meeting in December. According to Go to WCPO 9 News.
But on Tuesday, Councillor Jennifer Carter pushed back on building a bench just for Bonnie Vance amid discussions about finalising the plan and logistics.
“I think it would be nice to have a lot of grandmothers in the park. There are a lot of people in Middletown who have raised their children,” she said. “We thought we were going to make Miami Park my grandmother's park. We didn't know it was for a particular family.”

Horn replied that it might not be feasible to line up benches dedicated to other families at the park, and the community ultimately said Vance had grown up there, and the outlet reported.
“There's one reason I raised it. We feel good that (Vance) came from our city,” Horn said. “And it's a monument to help people understand when you're going through difficult times. And you have to raise your child's children, there's hope for the future.”
On the 2024 campaign trail, Vance spoke several times about her late grandmother. I'm saying She was a “respectful Christian” and a “tough bird” who had hidden “handguns loaded with 19 luggage” throughout her home. At the Republican National Convention, the then presidential candidate described her as his “guardian angel.”

“I had a guardian angel by my side. She was an old lady who could barely walk, but she was tough as a claw,” Vance said. I said.
