What began as a simple trip to Starbucks turned into a fierce conflict between NFL insiders, reportedly needs to ease NFL security.
According to a profile football story, the incident occurred at Starbucks, inside the JW Marriott Hotel in Indianapolis, Indiana. Ian Rapoport, a national insider at the NFL Network, was having a conversation with his agent when Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports NFL Insider interrupted the two and said something about the effect of “I need to talk”;
Rapoport, who clearly doesn't feel the same urgency as talking to Schultz, responds by saying they don't need to talk. Schultz then accused Rapoport of something. Longtime NFL Network Insider denied the charges. Schultz is then told to Rapoport, “If you have to say it to me, say it on my fucking face… If this continues, we'll have a fucking problem.”
Soon after this, NFL security was involved and separated the two.
Pro Football Talk reports two disputes in conflicting reports about meetings between Fox Sports Color Analysts and Las Vegas Raiders minority owner Tom Brady and Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford.
Schultz reported on his encounter on social media.
However, Rapoport appears to have neglected the meeting as a chance encounter. This characterization angered Schultz, who posted on X. “There's a bridge that sells you at exactly the same time as Tom Brady and Matthew Stafford, who happen to run at ski resorts in Montana, and at ski resorts everywhere,” he said.
Matthew Stafford is one of the most trafficked names in the quarterback rumor trade factory. The Raiders could be a landing spot for NFL veterans who are already in California and want to stay there rather than move the cross country to the giants and other suitors. As Schultz mentioned, it seems very unlikely that the Brady and Stafford meeting happened by chance.
Either way, if you're out to JW Marriott Starbucks in Indianapolis this week, look at yourself.
