What’s going into Giants’ franchise-altering Cam Ward decision

INDIANAPOLIS – The Giants were scheduled to be in Seattle in the first week of October, so it makes sense for Joe Shane to scout on the West Coast that weekend. He wanted to see Miami quarterback Cam Ward, so he took part in Berkeley's game against California.

Giants general manager Shane said Ward threw a pick 6 interception when Miami fell behind 35-10. Shane then led Ward to the Hurricanes with touchdowns on four consecutive drives in a Wild 39-38 victory. Ward threw a scoring pass with 26 seconds left for the winning points.

“Some of it was in the hole for him, but he could even take them out and won the game for him,” Shane said this week at the NFL Scouting Combine.

“These are the traits you're looking for. To get the team back… that when everyone in the building knows you'll throw it, you can throw it. This draft has a few such quarterbacks, not just cams.”
