For Bill Belichick, the spotlight has brightened.
The University of North Carolina, which hired a former NFL coach in December, is considering taking HBO's “Hard Knock: Offseason” order.
“There's been a lot of conversations going on about that right now,” said Tar Heels football manager Michael Lombardi. On Friday's “The Pat McAfee Show”. “We've come all over the place, seen our program and did a lot of offers to do things behind the scenes, but I don't think it's official or signed yet.”
First reported news Front Office Sports'Ryan Glasspiegel emphasized that the NFL film lost Saquon Berkeley to the Eagles as it was difficult to find an NFL team to commit to “hard knock” after last year's Giants catastrophe.
“There's definitely a chance. NFL Films VP Keis Koslow told McAfee in January. “We're talking with a lot of teams about it. But we'll see what happens. I mean, we need participants who are willing to do that show. We're not going to force anyone to do that show.
“The show is about the process,” he continued. “And then, “Hey, we're going to start in January and have endpoints after the draft. And you'll see how a group of people facing really difficult decisions make those decisions.”
Belichick, 72, is under the microscope in freshman coaching at the college level, and getting him to join HBO would certainly add a plot to his opening chapter as a tar heel.
“There's never been many times when you can bring the best coach of all time to a meeting,” Lombardi said.
The eight Super Bowl winners and the Patriots parted ways after 24 seasons last January.
He took a year off from coaching, but was busy with many TV gigs.
Last month, Belichick signed a five-year contract with a base salary of $10 million a year, but is only guaranteed for the first three years.
The deal also saw a $10 million acquisition, which would fall to $1 million in June.
“I didn't come here,” Belichick said at a news conference held in Chapel Hill on December 12, 2024 that his 23-year-old girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, was present.
The former National Champion cheerleader could be featured on the show as he was publicly supportive of Tar Heel after Belichick was hired.
Previously, the Belichick name was circulated through the coaching carousel.
Fans will be close-up with his element and coach who is strict and private about his program.
