Olaniy appeared at Newark East Side High School and was hired as a 6-foot-5 guard before playing for three years at Stony Brook before transferring to join the Hurricanes program.
He then returned to the Seawolves for the 2021-22 campaign.
However, he was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor in November 2023. According to politicians, in a story released last yearand Oraniy has learned that since his final year at Stony Brook he has in fact suffered from brain cancer.
According to politicians, Olaniyi underwent three surgeries in New York City to remove the tumor on December 3, 2023, but in an interview with the outlet he expressed his desire to return to basketball again after a full recovery.
Following his final season of 2021-22, he tried to play overseas, but his battle with mental health made him unable to find opportunities, the outlet added.
He appeared in 98 games with Stony Brook over four seasons on the program, averaging 12.2 points per game, starting a career-high 18 during the 2019-20 campaign.
During his sole season with the Hurricanes, he started 18 games and appeared in 21 games, but averaged 10.5 points per game, and after his final season with Stony Brook, he tried to build a career abroad after training with an NBA player in Miami.
