Trump claims Eagles ‘are coming’ to White House for Super Bowl celebration

There were questions about whether the Super Bowl champions Philadelphia Eagles would visit the White House to celebrate the title.

President Donald Trump told spectators on Friday that the Eagles will be visiting the White House.

“They're here, Philadelphia is here,” Trump said.

The team itself has not confirmed whether to visit or not.

After the Eagles won their first Super Bowl in Trump's first term in 2018, the team refused Trump's invitation to the White House.

Trump announced on Tuesday that he would extend the invitation.

“They'll be like that [invited]. We're not yet, but we're going to do that,” Trump said. Absolutely, they will be extended invitations. I'll do it soon. I'll be doing a while today. They deserve to be here and we want to see them. ”

The day after the Super Bowl, veteran offensive lineman Lane Johnson said it would be a “team decision” to visit the White House. Johnson was part of the 2018 Super Bowl team and was invited by Trump after some players refused to visit the White House due to Trump's criticism of people who kneeled or raised their fists during the national anthem in protest of racial injustice and police brutality.

Trump issued a statement at the time about cancelling his invitation, saying “it's more valuable to the 1,000 fans planning on attending the event.”
