The Sun Belt Conference Tournament is back.
So does the form known as “The Gauntlet.”
Matching a 13-5 record on conference plays in South Alabama, James Madison, Troy and Arkansas led four teams to tie the ranks above the Sunbelt this season, and these four teams took the deep stage of the tournament. South Alabama is undefeated against the other three teams this season and will be the first seed in the meeting to ensure a tiebreaker advantage. The Jaguars were 2-0 against Arkansas this season, earning Notch victory with both Marshall and James Madison. Courtesy of the Top Seeds, Alabama said goodbye to the Sunbelt semi-finals.
Duke entered last weekend with a chance to win the conference title and the number one seed perfectly, but Friday's defeat to Texas opened the door to a four-way tie above the meeting's standings. However, as the second seed, the Dukes still said goodbye to the semi-finals.
Troy was the third seed at the conference, with Arkansas as the fourth seed. Both teams won goodbye to the quarterfinals.
On the other end of the ranking, the tournament begins with No. 12 Southern Miss (10-21) against No. 13 Coastal Carolina (10-21), followed by No. 11 Louisiana (11-21) vs. No. 14 ULM (7-24). If one of these teams punches tickets for the NCAA tournament, they will need to win 7 games in 7 days.
