The long, winding road to the Men's Final Four begins on Sunday night.
At the Atlantic Sun Conference.
ASUN is the first of a 31-person men's conference tournament scheduled to begin this month, with the Asun Conference tournament starting with a pair of games on Sunday evening. No. 9 Stetson will face No. 10 Central Arkansas on Lipscomb's campus, with top-seeded bison waiting on the wings to take on the winner of that game. Stetson won the ASUN tournament a year ago, knocking out Austimpy to advance to his first NCAA tournament.
Speaking of governors, they will face No. 8 North Florida on the North Alabama campus in other games Sunday night, with Austimpie being the No. 7 seed in the Asun tournament. The winner of the Austimpy North Florida game will win No. 2 seed North Alabama on Tuesday night.
ASUN was probably a one-bid meeting, with both Lipscomb and North Alabama matching 14-4 and 22-9 records in the conference play. The two teams split the season series, with Lipscomb taking the top seed with the second tiebreaker. This is the record for the third seed team on the Florida Gulf Coast. Lipscom defeated FGCU this season, with North Alabama losing to the Eagles.
All games in the ASUN tournament will be held on the campus site. Additionally, only the top 10 teams in the conference will advance to the tournament. So, both West Georgia and Belarmin are watching with us this week.
Another interesting feature of the Asun tournament? All rounds will be reorganized in the semi-finals. There, the seed with the highest remaining seeds plays the lowest remaining seeds in one game, with the other two teams squared in the other matchups.
