New census data shows New York City is the most desirable city for college-educated Americans.
Over 6% of university graduates who moved in 2023 ended with the Big Apple. Axios reported citing the 2023 year-round Community Survey in America.
That's more than Los Angeles and Chicago combined.
This is almost twice the next biggest destination. Washington, DC won 3.5% for white-collar workers who received 3.2% and Dallas.
Chicago and Los Angeles attracted 2.4% of university alumni, respectively.
Several other once popular cities also followed, including Denver, 2.4%, Boston, and 2.2%, and San Francisco.
Good news for New York after the city saw a massive departure during the Covid-19 pandemic. The residents continue to run away in large numbers, with many suing crimes and high living costs as they leave.
New York lost an estimated 78,000 people in 2023. This is the same year as the American Community Survey. This is the third year in a row that the Big Apple's population has shrunk.
Census data on university graduates includes people who reported moving to new counties last year.

Another 2024 report, conducted by the Citizens' Budget Committee, found that about half of New Yorkers are planning to join the Exodus from the city within five years, and only 30% of the city say they are happy, denounced the biggest drop since the pandemic.
