Jack Hughes exits with scary injury as Devils hold their breath

Devils fans feel a sense of deja vu, but in a good way.

Jack Hughes lost to Golden Knight on Sunday night, before losing to Golden Knight after rolling hard into the board and looking to hold his shoulders late in the third season.

The Devils star entangled Golden Knights Jack Eychelle near the net forward, sending them both to the ice, causing Hughes to hit the endboard.

Achel quickly stood up and checked the fuse and then rushed to check the younger forwards as the fuse had fallen on the ice in pain.

Hughes skated from the ice under his own power, but he went straight to the Devil's locker room.

Following the game, Devils head coach Sheldon Keefe had no details about Hughes' status.

“It's really hard to see him fall,” Keefe told reporters. “There's no update. He'll have to be evaluated. Obviously it didn't look good. We need to take the time to know the full extent of it.”

In the middle of chaos, Keefe was kicked out of the game with less than two minutes left on the clock after appearing to be a passionate discussion in the direction of references after Hughes' injury.

The loss of Hughes could prove devastating for New Jersey. New Jersey is third in the metropolitan area after a 2-0 loss to Vegas.
