The Rangers overtook 28-15, 28-15, 28-15, before the visitors dumped 20 shots to Jonathan in the final frame.
Quick denied Nick Blankenberg on the side of the net with his stick alone after an acrobatic turn at the crease.
He absorbed Jonathan Marchessaud and lifted his left foot forward at the front door.
Finishing with 34 saves to post the third shutout of the season and the 63rd of his career, Quick took the Predators 4-0 win on Sunday night at Madison Square Garden in his 800th NHL game.
“When there's an injury, you need the goaltender to make a save and both guys are doing it, so the quick was great tonight,” coach Peter Laviolet said. “In particular, he had to make some big saves when the game was 3-0. There's no doubt that he should have done better in front of him. There's a bit of sleepy going on in the third period, but overall it's a pretty good game.”
As a result, Quick has become the sixth goalkeeper in the last 50 years, registering three shutouts in one season for ages 39 and above.
He is also the 17th goalkeeper in league history to appear in 800 career games and the second most US-born goaltender, after John Vanbysbrook (882 GP).
Laviolette has returned to the traditional approach, with the exception of five powerplay units.
The first group featured Zach Jones, Artemi Panarin, Mika Zibanejad, Vincent Trokek and JT Miller.
This is a much-anticipated opportunity for Jones, who built a Sterling reputation for quarterbacking power play at UMass.
Defender Kandre Miller was at the top of the second powerplay unit along with Alexis Lafreniere, Will Quill, Johnny Brosinski and Brennan Osman.
“I know it's one game, so it's quick,” Laviolette said of the quick change. “I always feel a bit better with the power play with the defensive guys out there. I'm someone who's thinking about what will happen if things break, on the other hand. There were three or four opportunities in the power play, but it came from other units, but not necessarily those units.
“We work through it, this is early on. [Adam] Fox is not in the lineup. We work through it. ”
Arthur Kariev was his third healthy scratch in a straight game.
New Ranger Calvin De Hahn was drafted 12th overall by the Islanders and spent the first seven seasons of his NHL career with the organization.
“I started my career in New York,” De Hahn said. “I only have good things to say about the island organization. I enjoyed my time there. When my wife and I were young, it was good, they enjoyed the city a little. I'm honestly older in hockey years. I had kids at home, so my life has changed a bit over the years. I'm excited to go back to New York, saying only good things to say about the area.”
Chad Ruwedell, also an imminent unlimited free agent, was unavailable for Hartford in an AHL game against the Providence Bruins on Sunday evening.
He is considered healthy and speculates that the 35-year-old defender could become a trade work.
