Couple arrested for allegedly forcing way onto plane to Mexico

The couple has been arrested for attacking airline staff who allegedly attacked airline staff while trying to force a flight to Mexico.

Rafael Seirafe-Novaes and Beatriz Rapoport de Campos Maia were running late for a flight to Cancun on Sunday when they got caught up in a fierce argument with airport staff, the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office He told NBC Miami.

During the fight, one of the suspects threw coffee in the face of an American Airlines employee, officials said.

Video of the incident obtained by NBC shows several police vehicles responding to a tarmac next to an American Flight 2494 just before takeoff.

About six Miami-Dade Sheriff's deputies responded to the fight, according to the outlet.

Seirafe-Novaes is accused of resisting officers without violence or trespassing, while Maia is charged with two counts of battery and trespassing.

American Airlines CBS News Talking to Miami: “Violence has not been tolerated by American Airlines and we are committed to working closely with law enforcement in their investigation.”

An airport spokesperson told NBC that the sheriff's office is handling the investigation.
