Sen. Chiss Van Hollen (D-MD) said on CNN's “News Central” on Monday that he regretted the vote to confirm Secretary of State Marco Rubio, adding that there appears to have been a “complete lobotomy.”
Van Hollen said, “What we see is, in my view, a big reorganization. You have President Trump. President Trump no longer believes that the United States is the leader when it comes to defending and promoting freedom, the rule of law and democracy. But we did it imperfectly. He abandons that whole paradigm. He sees himself like Putin and Xi. In my view, it's not America's first. It's America of Retreat.”
When asked about his vote, he added: He didn't call Zelensky a dictator, but it appears he has a full lobotomy or heart transplant. I don't know what that is. But first of all, he allowed Elon Musk to essentially take over the State Department's operations. We saw how they were trying to dismantle USAID – it was Elon Musk's initiative, and now he's just parroting Donald Trump. Well, if that's what he takes on the job, I'm extremely disappointed just to do Donald Trump and “dear leader” things. But that seems to be the direction he is heading. ”
