Dane Paulsen, 2, vanishes from family’s front yard, prompting massive search

The two-year-old Oregon boy disappeared from his family's front yard while playing in the daytime on Saturday, prompting a massive search, authorities said.

Dane Paulsen disappeared before 4:30pm when his parents were lost in the front yard of the north of Siletz, a small city near the Siletz River, said in a news release Sunday.

“Dane is friendly and fearless and comfortable around strangers and water, but he can't swim,” the sheriff's office said. “Dane is known to love water and vehicles.”

Hundreds of people participated in the search, including certified search and rescue teams, sheriff groups, and community volunteers. In the first 24 hours of Dane's loss of, the sheriff's office said the team has covered nearly 300 miles but has yet to spot any signs of a child so far.

The search also included multiple vessels, divers, drones and K-9s.

Dozens of investigators are following numerous leads with support from the main Lincoln County crime team and the FBI.

The Sheriff's Office said Dane's loss disappearance did not meet the standards for using the Amber Alert system at this time, and there was no evidence to suggest that criminal activity was involved.

Investigators ruled out unknown vehicles seen near the bridge near the family home about 30 minutes before Dane disappeared. The sheriff's office said the vehicle and its drivers were stationed and “is no longer a point of interest.”
