According to multiple sources in the room, top officials at the Office of Management and Budget, including Las Vert and Dan Bishop, spent Monday night pitching clean, ongoing resolutions to house conservatives at a closed door meeting. President Donald Trump will also meet with members who worked with the family's Freedom Caucus on Wednesday.
While the HFC and its Congressional allies have historically supported government shutdowns, Vought and Bishop argued that clean CR would actually be the best scenario, sources told Blaze News. The funding deadline is within two weeks of March 14th.
House Republicans, who are soon approved border funds, Doge's proposed bullish spending cuts, and Trump-backed budget blueprints, are keen to keep up the momentum.
Vought scored several points on the members of the room, noting that the impressive momentum of the Trump administration was curtailed by the sudden government shutdown. Furthermore, if you pass a clean CR, Republicans can pass a pork-filled omnibus bill that avoids negotiations with Democrats.
The room was full of spending skeptics and fiscal conservatives, but multiple sources told Blaze News that Vought's pitch was well received, categorizing moods as “compatible” and “friendly.” Several Republicans in the room, who were previously in the middle of the GOP spending battle, have left the meeting with positive outlook, sources confirmed.
Vought argued that the federal government needs to remain open to maintain “doge-ing,” according to multiple sources. Rather than diverting focus from President Donald Trump's policy priorities and Doge's directives in the form of closure, they were encouraged to support clean CR to properly implement the MAGA delegation, which was overwhelmingly won at the ballot box in November.
“The rebellion needs momentum to stay alive,” a source told Blaze News.
