Trump threatens increased tariffs if Canada retaliates

President Trump on Tuesday threatened to add additional taxes to Canada if US neighbours Canada retaliated on their own after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau condemned Trump's newly implemented tariffs.

“Explain to Canadian Governor Trudeau that if he places a retaliation fee on the US, our mutual tariffs will soon increase as well!” Trump said. The true societyusing his familiar nickname, suggests that if the Prime Minister is acquired by the US, he will become the “governor” of Canada

The Trump administration has imposed a 25% tariff on most imports from Canada and Mexico, and a new 10% tariff on imports from China. This move has strengthened the trade war, and those countries are moving to retaliate soon.

Last month, Trump signed mutual tariffs in any country that he planned to put himself in the US

In a speech Tuesday, Trudeau promised that the Canadian government would protect citizens and Canadian businesses from tariff attacks and acquisitions, and that it would warn American citizens of rising prices.

The resigned prime minister, who announced his intention to resign in January, spoke in person in his speech, saying, “We should work together to ensure even greater prosperity for North Americans in a very uncertain and challenging world.”

He also highlighted a recent manipulation from the Wall Street Journal editorial board, which said Trump's tariff plans were “the most stupid tariff standout” hurting friends in the country.

Trump delayed the implementation of 25% tariffs in Canada and Mexico by one month as a result of negotiations between Trudeau and Mexican President Claudia Sinbaum. The two countries had agreed to more measures at the time to secure a border with the US, but the president said Monday there was no room for more deals.

Simbaum warned on Tuesday that it would announce retaliatory tariffs on Sunday. China has also threatened to impose tariffs of up to 15% on imports of certain goods.
