Johnson: Democratic Rep. Al Green should be censured for ‘shameful’ protest

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) said during Trump's speech on a joint Congressional session Tuesday night that Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) should be condemned for his “shady” protest.

Comments from Johnson came minutes after Trump finished his speech. Meanwhile, Green was removed from the house room after his destructive display.

“Absolutely shameful. When asked by Hill about the protest, Johnson said, “It's a sight that wasn't necessary. He made history in a terrible way, and I hope he enjoys it.”

“If they want to create a face of their resistance to Rep. Heckling, 77, if it's Democrats, then that's right,” he added. “But we don't tolerate that on the floor of our house.”

Johnson said he is “very confident” that “many” Republicans from the family would propose a resolution denounce Green.

Within minutes of Trump's speech on Tuesday night, when the president was debating his “orders” to serve, Greene had been serving in the House for 20 years – rose up and began screaming at the president, claiming he had no mandate. Republicans broke out with the “American” chant.

After continuing to scream by Green, Johnson denounced the small gave, saying, “Members are instructed to maintain courtesy and maintain the home and stop any further confusion. That's your warning.”

“Members are engaged in deliberate decoration violations and the chair is ready to instruct the sergeant to restore the order to the joint session,” he added.

“Mr. Green, please take your seat,” Johnson said. “Please take your seat.”

When the screams didn't sink, Johnson ordered the sergeant to remove the green from the chamber. Republicans began singing “Hey, hey, hey, goodbye” to the green.

After leaving the Chamber of Commerce, Green told reporters during his speech that he did not regret the protest.

“It's worth letting people know that there are people who are people who are going to stand up,” Green said.

House Republicans could compete to introduce a resolution denounce Green. Before Trump's speech, the committee of the Freedom Caucus of Conservative Houses Threatened by the blame A democratic lawmaker who confused the president's speech.

“The president's speech to the congressional joint session tonight is a constitutional duty. It's not a sideshow for Democrats to use noisemakers, threaten, throw things, or otherwise confusing. Our colleagues have realized that Heckler's veto is unacceptable,” the group wrote. “You're being condemned. Sergeant and Capitol Police expect to take appropriate action against members of Congress or others violating House rules.”

Republicans were not the only ones criticizing Green's protests. Sen. Chris Coons (d-del.) told Hill after his speech that the Texas Democrat exhibit was “counterfect.”

“I think I'm standing up and saying he has no obligation to cut Medicare, but I think it's beyond worship,” he said.
