The Mavericks are the most depressing NBA storyline of the season, but Piston is perhaps the most enjoyable surprise. After winning 14 League Law games last year, Detroit is heading for one of the biggest turnarounds in NBA history, 35-27.
The betting market is not completely adjusted. The piston is 35-25-2 versus the point spread (ATS), which ranks fourth. This includes an 8-1 ATS run in the last nine games, and there's no reason to think it's going to slow down.
Detroit will visit the Los Angeles Clippers as a small favorite on Wednesday. I'm helping with pistons and hope to build on a 30-16 ATS record in the sports section of the post.
The Clippers are in the spiral, losing six of their last seven games after a road loss to the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday. What makes this worse is Norm Powell and Derrick Jones Jr. fighting injuries, which left them missing out. Powell is unlikely to face a piston, but Jones is suspicious. Furthermore, Health prevents Kawhi Leonard from playing on consecutive nights, so he doesn't play either.
All this leaves the Clippers as an average team at best. James Harden is their main offensive weapon and he is as unreliable as they come. Centre Ivica Zubac is solid and underrated, while role players Kris Dunn, Nicolas Batum, Bogdan Bogdanovic and Amir Coffey are all skilled, but the ceilings are low.
Meanwhile, the Pistons team is far more talented than casual fans notice. Rising Star Cade Cunningham has become the best player on the court, and all his pieces fit very well around him. Additionally, the bench has been strengthened throughout the season and is no longer a weakness.
Are you going to bet on the NBA?
The Pistons have scored at least 112 points in 15 of their last 16 games. The outlier was a home game against the Clippers. The Clippers have a strong defensive power and are ranked fourth in efficiency. However, Detroit ranks 9th, and the gap in offensive efficiency rankings makes him a big support for the pistons. That's a difference for me. Especially what LA has to play and travel on consecutive nights.
Play: Piston-1.5 (-110, DraftKings)
