Jennifer Hudson and boyfriend Common got a bit too close to the action at the Knicks game Tuesday.
The couple sat courtside at Madison Square Garden to watch the New York Knicks play against the Golden State Warriors, but things took an unexpected turn when Miles McBride attempted to steal a basketball right in front of them. Video footage of the mishap showed McBride accidentally knocking the ball right at Hudson. The ball slammed into the star.
Common attempted to raise his arm to protect his girlfriend from the unexpected encounter but seemed to bang into her face just as McBride collided with her. A sports commentator could be heard shouting “Protect Jennifer Hudson!” amid the commotion.
“He actually banged the glasses,” one of the commentators said.

Hudson looked shocked and completely unimpressed. Her glasses were knocked right off her face and hung awkwardly from her ears before she yanked them off. The singer and actress fussed over the now-bent glasses briefly before hanging them on her top.
A commentator’s voice beamed through the video. “Oh no, not the glasses,” he said.

Common wrapped his arm around his girlfriend to comfort her as she sat next to him, visibly distressed by the quick series of unexpected events. (RELATED: Jon Stewart Breaks Mug, Bleeds During ‘Daily Show’ Rant Against DOGE)
Hudson didn’t seem to be injured, but it was quite obviously not the date night she expected to have when she set out for the evening.
