Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) declared on MSNBC's “All In” on Wednesday that President Donald Trump blatantly lied during his speech at a joint Congressional session.
Host Chris Hayes said: “If I wasn't wrong, you were in that room last night. There was a very long section. We played a bit, but the whole section on fraud and social security made long riffs for the age group reading these numbers. What was your reaction at that moment about what you were hearing and what was it?”
Booker said, “Donald Trump had stopped me beautifully. He won't surprise me anymore. But this was a lie they've been committing for months. To bring it up in this speech, most people in that room on either side of the aisle knew this was a blatant lie, and he did it with a mocking. You're not a hyperbolic, this is someone who's trying to do what we've seen in the past. It's privatized social security, ending the program, pointing it out, and pointing it out, and it's actually a key program that Americans pay for the whole job.”
He added: “And here are two strategies. One, this digi-timedization is to make it ocky and lie over and over again. Until once again people start to believe this is a broken program. And at the same time, they are firing people who are essential to make the program work effectively and efficiently. And how do we know this? Because one of the first people they fired was. The inspector who ran that report that you just used. Put that agency accountable and exposes the lies of those who are in charge of keeping waste, fraud and abuse free.”
