Long Island cop Michael Arkinson who arrested Justin Timberlake in Hamptons awarded ‘Officer of the Year’

A Long Island police officer who arrested pop superstar Justin Timberlake for drinking at the Hamptons was awarded for “immediate impact” in his first year at work.

SAG HARBOR VILLAGE police officer Michael Arkinson, 24, was appointed officer of this year's division at the ceremony on January 31st. According to SAG Harbor Express.

“Officer Arkinson was newly hired last year, but he had an immediate impact within the department and the community,” Chief Rob Drake said.

“…He has a positive attitude, shows incredible initiatives and wants to be involved constantly, improve his knowledge and skills and learn to become a more balanced police officer.”

Arkinson, who joined SHPD in March 2024, led the division last year with summons and arrests, including pulling and busting Timberlake in the town of Long Island in Ritz.

In June, Arkinson discovered “sexy back” singer Blow through the stop sign of a 2025 BMW SUV and left the lane.

Timberlake claims he had “one martini” while hanging with friends at a gorgeous American hotel in Sag Harbor, chasing them before he was pulled.

In the criminal charges, Akinson said the singer “appeared drunk” with “bloody and glassy” eyes, and “didn't follow instructions” during his outdoor sobriety test.

According to documents, he refused to take Breathalyzer three times.

Atkinson “he didn't know because he was very young,” Timberlake told Page 6 who he was during the early morning traffic stop.

The Grammy Award winner is said to have told Atkinson, “This is going to ruin the tour.”

Timberlake was charged with driving while drunk. This was dropped when he pleaded guilty to driving while his ability was decreasing. He was also quoted to perform a stop sign.

In August, the “Cry Me A River” singer pleaded not guilty to the DWI accusation and suspended his license in New York. He accepted the plea agreement more than a month later to avoid rehabilitation treatment.

As part of his plea deal, Timberlake completed 25 hours of community service, issued an official statement and was ordered to pay a $500 fine for an additional $260 fee.

“This is a mistake I made, but I hope that those who are watching and listening can learn from it,” Timberlake said last September.

Police reports show Timberlake has failed a series of outdoor sobriety tests, showing multiple signs of addiction, including poor balance and inability to follow instructions.

Despite being less than a year later in the department, Arkinson developed a harsh reputation among locals who described the executives as “Sag Harbor Nazi.”

The Long Island native graduated from Southampton High School and Roger Williams University in 2017 before becoming a part-time traffic controller.

According to page 6Arkinson jumped into action to save 25 local people who had been overdose a few days before his conflict with Timberlake.
